Public health Preparedness activities are designed to facilitate the Health Department respond to a variety of public health threats. A broad spectrum of response capabilities is necessary for “All Hazards” Preparedness. Thus, emergency preparedness planning encompasses a wide rage of threats, from a pandemic influenza outbreak, as we experienced in 2009-2010, to a possible terrorist attack.

The Howard County Health Department makes use of a federal grant to provide training for personnel, build relationships with other public safety agencies, provide community education, and write plans to respond to public health threats in the community.

During the 2010-2011 grant year, activities will be focused on measurable drills and exercises. The Health Department is committed to using “lessons learned” in these drills to refine plans and improve response procedures.
