What is a Near SHO? |
The Near SHO
program was developed as a preventative tool for the youths at-risk of becoming Serious Habitual Offenders. The SHOCAP committee, being developed as an inter-agency response network to identify serious habitual offenders, responds to the needs of our community in promoting programs to prevent delinquency. Who are Near
SHO’s? |
A Near SHO is a juvenile who has:
been charged and adjudicated of at least two (2) delinquent acts that would be felonies if committed by an adult and accumulated nine (9) point OR accumulated fourteen (14) points with one (1) adjudication involving a crime against a person, weapons offenses, or dealing in substances; OR accumulated twenty (20) points with one (1) felony adjudication. |

How do you get to be a Near SHO? |
A juvenile offender is identified as a Near SHO according
to a
carefully defined point system based on the juveniles choice
behavior.

What does it mean to be identified as a Near SHO? |
Identified
Near SHO’s will be placed on a list that is updated monthly and is available to police agencies, schools, probation departments, and a members of the SHOCAP committee. Once identified as a Near SHO, the juvenile will be eligible for services for the SHOCAP program including intensive supervision, counseling, and electronic monitoring. Procedures will be developed for these juveniles as a preventative to intervene prior to the juvenile becoming a
SHO. |
