DFC#33436 34-900886IV-E APPROVED Per Diem $140.00 The Residential Treatment of the Robert J. Kinsey Youth Center is a co-educational Treatment Unit for Children ages 10-20. The Residential Treatment Unit specializes in the care and treatment of adolescents experiencing on-going emotional and/or behavioral problems that have resulted in continued intervention by the court. Placement can result from either Children In Need of Services (CHINS) or delinquency actions. Appropriate candidates for our treatment program are those systems involved youth experiencing significant difficulty in the home-setting, those who have not responded well to probation and need structured placement, and those that need transitioning from other placements back to the home or foster home setting. CHINS, as well as delinquents, can benefit from our highly structured daily program that incorporates cognitive restructuring and skills building methods. Individually developed treatment plans assist youth and families in identifying and addressing cognitive and behavioral issues that have resulted in on-going problems in the home, school, and/or community. Emphasis is placed on thinking patterns, behavior patterns, and the resulting choices that either bring successful daily living or further intervention by other systems. Psycho-educational tracts are included in the treatment goals to provide skills building and utilization opportunities to support appropriate choices for behavior. Our vast, local network of service providers is utilized as appropriate to the individuals needs of the child and family. Our staff intensive program relies greatly on role-modeling, immediate confrontation and guidance, and developing personal responsibility and accountability. A number of counseling services are facilitated by the Robert J. Kinsey Youth Center with local and private clinics, based on the individual need of the child, including, but not limited to, individual and family counseling, contracted psychiatric services, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, Juvenile Sex Offenders Program (JSOP), and substance abuse awareness training. A number of staff at all levels are certified for Juvenile Sex Offender Counseling, in an effort to continue to enhance an all inclusive approach to treating sex offenders. The treatment team consists of a Program Director, Caseworker, placing Probation Officer / Caseworker, and Youth Managers who all participate as an integral part of the service team in the overall planning, implementation and evaluation of all individual treatment plans. The primary focus of the Residential Unit is to encourage the development of skills within the individual and the family which are necessary for the successful reintegration of the child into the community. Children who are presently attending local public schools have the opportunity to continue their education uninterrupted. It is our policy that each child will work to continue his/her education while residing at the Robert J. Kinsey Youth Center, including recreational and team activities. The Unit also utilizes a “positive peer culture” program. The Residential Unit has two primary areas of focus, independent living and family reunification. Each focus has specific tasks, levels of parental involvement, and goals. (rev.9/12/03)
